I like to experiment and challenge myself, pushing beyond realism to simplify, to abstract, and to rearrange to make paintings with life and vitality. I take my inspiration from being outdoors, surrounded by my subject matter and influenced by the light, colors, sounds, smells and movements around me. Painting outdoors puts the artist into a living environment, constantly in motion. The clouds move, the water moves, wind blows the trees, light and shadows are constantly shifting. So even if one paints quickly, the moment caught is not a single moment in time, but many moments, related but not simultaneous. I believe this results in a sense of time passing, and a sense of being there, not just for one moment, but for a while, looking and absorbing and breathing it all in.
