Yolanda Valdés Rementería

Yolanda Valdés Rementería, a native of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, is a prolific Portland-based artist and instructor with deep roots in Oregon arts and Latino communities.  A lifelong artist and advocate for equity, education, women’s rights, and farmworker rights, her artwork has been exhibited in numerous solo, group, and juried exhibitions nationally and internationally.  Valdés Rementería studied at Escuela Normal Nueva Galicia, School of Education in Guadalajara, Mexico, Clackamas Community College, as well as Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericana, Universidad Alcala de Henares, and Museo de Prado in Madrid, Spain.  She received her Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University in 1988. As an educator, she seeks out opportunities to promote creativity as a means to enhance the learning potential of her students. Through numerous national and international community service workshops, Ms. Valdés Rementería guides her students towards finding new ways to express oneself through creating art. She has lead various workshops focused on equity, inclusion, and creative arts, such as at the Woman of Color Empowerment Conference (PCC, Rock Creek, Portland), El Poder de la Mujer Conferences, National Hispanic Leadership Institute conferences, and various youth conferences through MANA, A National Latina Organization.  Valdés Rementería has participated in plein air painting groups since 1984 and she can often be found painting outdoors throughout Oregon.
