Andrew Cook

From a family of painters, Andrew was born in New York City in 1968 and grew up in Portland, Oregon. Being adjacent to working painters taught him not just about painting, but what it’s like to live as a painter; how to get by and work. His uncle, Craig Cheshire, taught at Portland State University for three decades, and aunt, Bonnie Butler, who was an accomplished Oregon painter, met while studying under Dave McCosh at the University of Oregon. Together they taught Andrew how to paint from observation. Dave McCosh was a seminal painter in the 20th century and Andrew is a trustee of the Dave McCosh Trust, part of the University of Oregon Foundation.

Andrew has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Oregon and a BA in Graphic Design from Portland State University. Andrew has happily been painting landscapes and figures in the Pacific Northwest and other places for over 30 years.
