Cindy Lommasson

In my Chinese brush painting work, I strive to distill a subject to its simplest expression, where a single well-executed brush stroke, usually only with ink, can communicate volumes. Minimal watercolor accompanying the ink painting allows it to retain its essential qualities, emphasizing line and shape. The Dream Journey Painters, who created imaginary nature scenes in seclusion during turbulent 4th century China, are a source of inspiration for my landscape paintings. I enjoy depicting Pacific Northwest scenes, though, as well as purely invented ones.
