Francene Levinson

My paintings are original abstract manipulations of digital pixels. I use this medium to create paintings about my observations, emotions, and commentaries. The environment and human experience are sources of inspiration for my work. This includes our climate, our politics, and our emotional reactions to it all. My immediate need is to paint the essence of being in the moment. Simple compositions of circles and spheres are often my subjects. They symbolize life in various conditions. As I create compositions, I rely on the elements and principles of art. I use the unlimited range of colors available in digital form to express myself. Value, dynamic line, and symmetry are important tools that I use to describe my state of being. It’s important to me to have the viewer see all my images as a diary of memorialized thoughts. I find that titles create a narrative that helps people relate to my abstract visuals. My art has been influenced by several art movements. including, Abstract Expressionism, Color Field Painting, Op-Art, Geometric Hard Edge Painting. I try to reveal the essence of forms, lines, space, and forces within well balanced, dynamic compositions which depict our common state of being within our environment and world order. Digital painting programs are unique because they use algorithms to control light, color, form and texture in digital form. This new medium art requires mastery of all the program parameters in addition to knowledge of the elements and principles of fine art. My digital paintings are printed on High Definition Aluminum to enable the finest rendition of digital color and form. As a digital artist, my computer is my pad, palette and portfolio. So, I use High Definition Aluminum to print limited editions of my compositions. The high definition archival print is permanent so I can share my paintings and communicate my thoughts. Each painting is dust, scratch and light resistant, frame-less and ready to hang. Digital painting allows me to express unique artistic visions that I would not be able to render in any other medium.
