Laura Carim Todd

Laura is a scientist, a yoga teacher, and an artist from Barcelona, now living in Portland, Oregon. She started drawing back in 2013, when, during an unproductive day of grant writing, she tried drawing the face in a photograph hanging over her desk. The process of drawing turned out to be exhilarating and mood changing. She then started using art to counterbalance the rigidity of her life in academia. She has worked on realistic portraits in graphite, drawn surreal scenes in ink, painted watercolour backgrounds and patterns, and experimented with digitally combining her original drawings, paintings, and photographs to create completely new images. She is most interested in the process of creating. This includes the expectation, the struggle, the planning, the endurance, the letting go, the surprise, the change, the resistance, and the satisfaction, just to name a few. Laura views the process of making art the same way she views her yoga practice. There is a lot of richness residing in the process itself. Art keeps her humble so she can proceed exploring her own process.
