Carla Axtman

Photography is an extension of the way I view the world. I see photographs everywhere I go. And by that, I mean I see how an image could be created from what’s in front of me. Sometimes it’s stacks of cans on the shelves in a grocery store. Sometimes it’s children playing in a park. Sometimes it’s the late afternoon light bouncing off the rolling hills and farmland near my Oregon home. My art is an effort to freeze those moments and create them on a presenting medium (like paper or metal, for example) the way my mind’s eye sees them. I often experiment with processing techniques to bring the images to their fullness. The goal is for the viewer to have a sense of what I felt in that moment, now forever frozen.
